Who we are
We are Alejandro and Felipe, two dreamers living in Barcelona with roots in South America. We settled on the Mediterranean coast in southern Europe because we have found a new home and the inspiration to create and dream big.
We come from Venezuela and Colombia, where we developed our passion for leather goods; we studied Architecture and Product Design, professions that gave us the tools to put our ideas on paper. Then, in Spain, we acquired the practical skills of sewing, pattern making and entrepreneurship to turn our designs into reality.
Our story began in 2019 as a budding idea in Barcelona, but it wasn't until 2021, after moving to Madrid for a year, that we made the decision to formally launch our dream, Surarquía.
In 2022 we returned to Barcelona, the city that inspires us and where we have been able to express our knowledge and passion for design. We did so seeking to combine the vibrant essence of the Venezuelan and Colombian Caribbean with the sophistication of the Mediterranean coasts, to create pieces that are functional works of art and that reflect an identity that perfectly defines our vision. We started by converting our own apartment in Barcelona into an improvised workshop. The kitchen was transformed into a cutting area, the living room into an assembly area. and our room was a sewing area. Our resources were limited, but our passion was boundless.
In July 2023 we opened our first store and the good results encouraged us to take a step forward. This is how, in October 2023, we moved our production to a larger and more functional space, close to the emblematic Sagrada Familia, specifically adapted for the creation of our pieces. Our new workshop allows us to fully dedicate ourselves to the production of our leather goods, improving our efficiency and preserving the local and artisanal essence that characterizes us.
We want to inspire through our passion for craftsmanship and design. We want every person who chooses Surarquía to feel the confidence and joy that we feel when creating each of our pieces. We want you to feel that when you wear one of our creations, you carry with you a little piece of our journey, of our passion, of our South.
