Materials

At Surarquía, the quality and sustainability of our raw materials are the cornerstone of our design and production philosophy.

Our leathers: We are proud to work primarily with leathers from regions renowned for their leatherworking tradition in Spain, primarily Catalonia, Alicante and Andalusia, where there is a rich history in the tanning industry. We complement this selection with leathers from the Italian region of Veneto, renowned for its high-quality leather craftsmanship. In addition, we maintain a close collaboration with local leatherworkers in Barcelona, thus supporting the local economy.

Environmental responsibility is fundamental to us, which is why we make sure that most of the leathers we use are certified sustainable, particularly in their practices of minimal use of water and harmful chemicals when they are chrome tanned; we also try to use leathers that are vegetable tanned. This is how we guarantee the quality of our products and our commitment to ethical and ecological practices in the fashion industry.

The essence of our brand is manifested in the distinctive combination of two leather finishes in most of our products:

  • Napa:

This finish provides a smooth, soft-touch texture and high resistance, offering an elegant aesthetic as well as practical functionality. The ease of cleaning these leathers ensures that our products maintain their beauty over time, resisting daily wear and tear.

  • Suede or split leather:

This suede-finish leather brings a touch of luxury and sophistication to our designs. The delicate, velvety texture creates a visual and tactile contrast with the nappa leather, adding depth and character to each piece. This finish reflects our attention to detail and our commitment to timeless elegance.

Textiles:

The textiles we incorporate into our designs are one of our most significant distinguishing features. We use natural linens, cottons, jutes and denims that capture the essence of Mediterranean textures, as well as recycled materials such as our satin, which guarantee an ecological raw material and at the same time ensure an exceptional level of quality and our support for the local textile industry.

Innovation in reinforcements and adhesives:

To improve the structure and durability of some of our bags, we have innovated with the use of a unique organic recycled material. This material, composed of leftover leather and silicone, provides the necessary firmness to our designs and also represents our commitment to reducing and reusing waste. The glues we use are mostly water-based, as they are more environmentally friendly and provide a high level of strength and durability to our pieces.
